ABOUT
Formerly, he was a normal human studying Japanese Literature at Kamii University. However, his whole life changed after he had Rize Kamishiro's kakuhou (organs that are only in Ghouls) transplanted into him and became a One-Eyed Ghoul (half human, half ghoul). After joining Anteiku as a part-time waiter, he learns how to live as a Ghoul and became known as Eyepatch.

PAST
Kaneki is a shy and reserved person and Hide being his only close friend. He usually spends most of his time reading books, due to his deceased father who loved reading books. Also influenced by his mother who had a lot of modesty, he willingly takes blame and punishment from others so that he can be someone who doesn't hurt people, but rather "the person getting hurt".
After he was turned into a half-ghoul, he clings to his human, not believing he is now a ghoul. To live normally as a human, he began to work at Anteiku and had built relationships with the ghouls who worked there. Because of his experiences, he had started to have interest in becoming stronger and began reading martial art books so that he could protect himself and the people close to him. If people close to him are threatened, he will try to protect them even he is the one who will get hurt.

ABILITIES
After being tortured by Yakumo Oomori and accepting his ghoul side. Kaneki became capable of easily dodging and countering quick attacks with his enhanced reflexes and strength. Such abilities made him capable of defeating Oomori with ease, and right after defeating Ayato. His regenerative ability was enhanced as well, being able to heal a broken leg or dislocated fingers in a matter of seconds.
